Well, now that APE is over I guess it’s time to focus on school once again. That is, while I also continue to work on my next comic that’s not on a deadline. So this semester I’m taking a plein air painting class again. I cannot describe how valuable this class is to me. It is invaluable! I’ve got a sweet new scanner that is SO FAST and make real good scans. My old one still works, and I used it to scan every page of “Pogonotomy,” but it took about 30 seconds or more to scan vs this new one taking about 3 seconds. AWESOME. Anyway, here’s a painting I made a couple weeks ago. It’s gouache, which I just started learning how to use. This is actually my third painting with gouache. The first two are really bad.

PS – Here’s a better scan of that last character sketch.

Here’s the new one that I promised. I think I’m settled on this technique for the comic, of which 10 pages are penciled and ready for inking and (sepia) coloring. The final comic will be much longer than 10 pages, probably closer to 30 or 35. But I’ll get these first 10 done and posted before continuing on. They’ll be done in about a week or so. Until then, enjoy this lady with a parasol!

PS – I’ll post a better, scanned version of this one later. For now, you get the photo version.

Yeah, been a while since I posted. I’m working hard on some comics right now for school. I’m going to start posting sketches and stuff more often since the story work is mostly done and now it’s time for all the drawing work. So here’s some watercolor sketches of stuff I’m working on. Yes, I realize that his arms and legs are incorrect in the running image. I didn’t notice that until after I finished inking it.

Working on a WWII piece in class involving FDR. Here’s a quick caricature study I did today. This guy is super difficult to caricature. This is the third one I did and the first one that remotely looks like him.
