Another test. This one was done in watercolor as opposed to inkwash for the last two. For the inked lines this time around I mixed a combination of brown and black inks to get the right level of dark brown I wanted. The watercolors give the benefit of being more forgiving than inkwash, which tends to dry faster and is more permanent. The watercolor allows me a longer period of wait time if I decide I want to blend it some more after letting it dry. I like the look of the inkwash better, though. The search for the right method continues!

Some sepia tone tests using brown ink. I think I need to find darker ink for the lines. I’ll try out gouache and watercolor next to see if I like them better. I can’t get as much of a range of value with this ink as I’d like.

Here are my final two digital paintings from this semester. I’m going to work on them a bit more I think, but this is they looked when I turned them in.
The first is a literal interpretation of the idiom “Too many chefs spoil the broth.” It needs more chefs in it, methinks.

This second is a sort of self-portrait of me running away from digital painting. Digital painting is very, very, very, very annoying sometimes. Yes, I know that my far leg looks like a penis. I will be fixing that.

Here is another painting from my digital painting class. I did this one entirely with digital watercolor (except for the linework). Took about 6 hours. Our assignment was a narrative painting having something/anything to do with World War II. This painting depicts Franklin Delano Roosevelt just before his death on April 12, 1945. He was having his portrait painted during lunch one day when he suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage. He died later that day. The portrait was never finished.

Pooped this one out. It still needs work. Going to rework it some more after class tomorrow.

This was a project for school. Made using Corel Painter X. It’s a fun program, but man is it finicky and buggy. I had to turn it in earlier today, but I didn’t quite get to bring the background and some of the table accessories to quite the finish I would’ve liked. Also, I totally left a big empty area at the upper right corner of the painting. Bad composition! There’s nothing there to move the viewer’s eye back to the rest of the painting. Whoopsie! I’m outta here! Escape route? Upper right corner! Also, the smoke coming off everybody could be WAAAAAY better. Lesson #1, kids: Time Management! Lesson #2: Planning!
Oh well. At the very least, I got a lot faster at using this program. :D
